Barnet Children's Service ICT Strategy

ICT Strategy

Vision

Over the next 5 years learning will take place in a much wider variety of modes and settings, ensuring that both young people and adults have access to a first-class education, facilitated by ICT.

The use of ICT empowers individuals to become independent, creative and collaborative learners, able to solve problems and communicate. It removes barriers to learning, generating new enthusiasms, and creating wider learning communities. This brings challenges to teachers and learners; it significantly changes the role of staff and learning establishments.

We must think beyond the use of current technology, resources and support, and evolve a vision that considers how learning might take place in the future.

Context

The Strategy incorporates both National and Local priorities drawn from the Barnet Learning Charter and Children and Young People’s Plan. It has close links with Every Child Matters and complements the philosophy and principles of the Becta Self Review Frameworks for Local Authorities and Schools.

The six aims shown below are designed to encompass and promote “Learning without limits” through innovation, choice, inclusion, diversity and best practice.

  1. To promote in leadership a strategic ICT vision and a high level of e-confidence
  2. To transform learning, teaching and assessment through the innovative use of ICT
  3. To extend learning opportunities through ICT inside and outside formal settings
  4. To integrate ICT effectively in management processes
  5. To promote the sustainable development of ICT by encouraging best practice in the use of resources and support
  6. To monitor and evaluate impact
